Cummins Nursery bought the New York State Fruit Testing Association (NYSFTA) nursery in 1995. NYSFTA was a Cornell-affiliated nursery that provided fruit trees to the general public. The company has continued this tradition of providing both the newest varieties from universities and the oldest seedlings from Kazakhstan.
The cofounder of the company, now a professor emeritus in the Department of Horticulture, developed the Cornell Geneva apple rootstocks, which have become the most sought-after apple rootstocks in the country. The company maintains close contact with the Cornell agricultural community.
